I feel very fifties in this outfit, very… expensive. The beauty of it is that half of the items are from Goodwill, and the other half are from the sale rack at Target. These shoes are my guilty pleasure- hard to walk in, slightly too big, slippery in tights, and absolutely impractical. But beautiful.
The necklace once belonged to my mother, which makes it special. The gloves were from an antique store for two dollars and have this beautiful detail over the first knuckle- a sort of mesh opening embroidered with flowers on one side. I love little pretty details like that that most likely you will be the only one to notice. Like patterns on the lining of a coat, or details on the inside of a cuff. Those little things make the item that much more special.
I ran errands like this; the lady at the bank asked if I was going somewhere, and when I said no, she gave me an odd look.
But I figure… why shouldn’t I dress the way I want to dress just for the heck of it? Why does there have to be an occasion to look nice?
So for the most part, when people at stores or banks or wherever I go ask me what the occasion is, I get used to their odd looks at my “No reason, I just felt like it.”
At least I’m having fun.
