Books, skulls, and cats.
You know, Wednesday should be Writing day. Because… y’know. WW. And then it could be Wednesday’s Weekly Writing Challenge. WWWC. Has a ring to it, doesn’t it?
Okay. Nevermind.
Not to bring a bit of depression to this ramble, but it has been exactly one week and a day since my nephew’s stillbirth. I really don’t know what else to call that day- it wasn’t exactly the day of his birth OR his death. But it feels like it’s been forever since December 28th, and I don’t know if this has to do with the high emotions of the day or that it’s already a new year. It does help to realize that my nephew died last year. It separates the sadness from the mourning.
I don’t even know if that makes sense.
Off of the sad subject.
I completely rearranged and organized my room this week. It took about two days, which is no surprise because my room was such a tornado that I was standing on my chair to get a non-messy picture of my daily outfits.
I never realized how many amazing and beautiful books I have. I found this one:
Which, on the inside of the cover, says “Carl Redlich, from Chas. H. Plass, Christmas 1918.”
I also found a Student’s Cambridge Edition of Tennyson’s Poetical Works that dates from 1898, a collection of Edgar Allen Poe stories that belonged to my grandmother (who’ll be 88 this year) before she was married, and a bunch of old photo-history National Geographic booklets that date between 1922 and 1956. I’ll probably have pictures of them all in Friday’s My-Week-in-Photos post.
I also didn’t realize how many books I have- and I don’t even have them all out.
There are these:
And these:
And this pile:
And a pile beside my chair:
And some real pretty ones on my desk:
And those booklets I was talking about, also on my desk:
Oh, and we can’t forget the other ones on my windowsill:
And that’s not even all of them.
By the way, Yorick says hi.
He and Hamlet have been hanging out a lot lately. Making fun of Romeo and Juliet and threating to hasten their deaths if they don’t quit being so sappy.
I’m ashamed to say I haven’t even read half of the books that I own. Yes, I did just buy most of them because they were pretty. (Also, most of them are from thrift stores.) The coolest book I own is most definitely that Twentieth Century Home Cook Book. It’s got everything from how to make squirrel soup to how to decorate your home to the rules of etiquette for wearing gloves. Pretty much awesome. It’s from 1906. My dad found it in a house he was renovating.
Well, I think that’s about it.
My cat, as always, says something along the lines of “Go away, I’m sleeping.”
Yep.
That, or she may be saying “I will kill you in your sleep.”
But I can’t be too sure.
Oh! I almost forgot! I randomly found this book at the library, and it will be my next book review. I cannot WAIT to start reading!
Isn’t the cover AMAZING? *squeeeeeeee*!!! Okay. I’m just… it’s Mr. Darcy. As a vampire. It’s gonna be good.
Outfit:
So… now that my room is clean, I can be a normal person and stand on my floor to take the picture. Only not, because my desk is slightly too close to catch the top of my head in the frame, so I’m still posing like a weirdo. I don’t really want my head to be cut off.
And I went against all rules of winter clothing and wore a summer dress today. I don’t care what people say. 😀
Also, I found this at the antique store before Christmas.
It’s a vintage nightgown… that I’m afraid to put anywhere in my room because I don’t want my cat to snag it. And I’ll probably never wear it. It’s too pretty. It’ll probably become a decoration on one of my walls.
Is that weird?
