A “Smudge” makeup brush, also found at Target. I don’t know how much. 😉

I’m sorry if it felt kind of awkward, me talking. I didn’t know what to say. If y’all want me to do any kind of makeup or hair tutorials, just ask! Or photo-editing… whatever. I love doing tutorials, and if there’s anything you see here that you want to know how to do, I will do it for you.

  3. Thats a great and easy make up tutorial. I look at some on you tube sometimes and get so overwhelmed by like 50million products to give a natural look. NO THANKS. I do like the highlighting brow thing i might have to give that a whirl sometime

    1. Yeah, I think it’d be great to do tutorials with makeup that’s actually affordable, and not using a ton of products. I’ve never actually come across a makeup artist that did that.

  4. Aaa what an amazing tutorial!!! I always love hearing your voice, it’s so awesome, really 😀 And the make up you did is very nice. I’ve never been a fan of overdoing it when doing your makeup, so I never use eye shadows. But now that I watched how you do it, I will try it. I love how it looks with the rosy shade and I believe it will look ok on me as well, because our eyes have almost the same color. Oh btw, the moment you zoomed cracked me up! I don’t know why, but I thought it was so weird! (yes, I’m a lunatic :P) Love the close up pictures, too! You’re so pretty, and your skin is fab, I love freckles!!! Sometimes I wish I had 😀

    Anyway, about the outfit, it’s perfect! All of your outfits are perfect of course, but this one is so adorable! And the rarrings are to die for! 😀

    Your videos are awesome every time, so I don’t care. You can make a video on anything you want! I’ll watch it anyways 😀

    1. Haha, I went through my phase of overdoing makeup– more for the fun of it than that I thought it looked better– but I’ve always liked more natural makeup on… well, anyone. I think it would look really good on you, too, because yes. We have the same color of eyes! 😀
      It was weird to me, too. Don’t worry. I think it was awkward. Oh well. 😀

  9. I love how your hair looks when it’s tied up/pulled back or whatever it is you do! I’m on a tutorial-watching spree, so a hair tutorial would be fun 🙂
    Also, you’re outfits are making me want to go thrift-ing. I’m having trouble reminding myself to not get my hopes up. And to not plan an elaborate sweep of the city.

    1. I did a hair tutorial for this hair a while ago, which you can see here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u1P-viTtCxc but I may do a newer one, since it’s been a while. This really is just my everyday… fastest way to deal with my hair. 😉
      You know, if you really wanted to go thrifting, you could take advantage of your local Goodwill’s tag sales, and *only* shop those tags (you know, red tag is 50% off… or the 99 cent Sunday sales.) That way you would be limited and wouldn’t spend too much.

  10. I don’t think you sound awkward at all. You did it really well. And though I’ve said that your eyes are awfully lovely without makeup, this looks really good too. Out of curiosity, how would you do this differently if you had brown eyes?

    You posed with the bike again! Wait . . . “I think I might claim this bike if nobody else does.” Are you telling me someone just randomly left a bike there? Where is this picture taken?

    Oh, and your shirt is quite pretty. Are they supposed to be leaves? They remind me of peacock feathers.

    1. Well, I’m glad you don’t think I sound awkward. I love doing tutorials, but I always think that… it’s just weird doing a tutorial for something that is everyday for me. 🙂
      For brown eyes, I would use similar colors, but something with more of a purple or blue tint. Not blatantly so, but purplish hues will accent brown eyes really well. So perhaps the same white and nude, and then a light purple depth color (instead of the rose) and either the same dark brown or a dark purple to line the eyes.

      No, it’s not randomly left there (this is the back of my house) but the boys(aka my brother and his roommates) never use it, and if they don’t claim it I will. 😀

      I don’t know what they’re supposed to be. But they remind me of peacock feathers, too.:D

  12. That top could be hand painted easily — a little fabric paint and tiny brush. Cute. Love Maybeline eye make-up. Their mascara is the best at any price. Love the chocolate tones pack, too. Thanks.

  16. Mara, I’m not an makeup artist, either. But I still think I could give a relevant comment about this entry. I don’t want to comment about the color and technique you used. You know it better than me. HAhhahah

    All I want to say is you already have a pair of beautiful eyes. You don’t need that thing called eyeshadow to enhance your everyday/casual look. 🙂

    It ruined your fresh and clean look. I love your “before” look. You are naturally pretty. Mascara is great, btw 😉

    1. Oh, no, it doesn’t offend me at all! It’s a great compliment to be told I don’t need makeup, and I actually prefer myself with as little makeup as I can get away with. But I find makeup fun to use, so I use it. 😉

  21. Any tips to deal with rosecea? I’m so pale that my cheeks look like they are on fire 24/7! I don’t like wearing alot of make-up either, any suggestions for a “light” solution?

    1. Something you might try is some tinted moisturizer. Just started using Aveno and love it. It is also SPF 30 (i think, might be a little lower). It is a very light coverage and they have two shades. Fair to light and medium to dark. I know, a broad range, but it looks really good. Very subtle.

      1. Thanks Jennifer, I’m already using Aveeno’s moisturizer and love it. I have added a little foundation to the lotion to tint it myself, it tends to streak tho (maybe it’s the application method). I’ll look for the tinted version 🙂

    2. Yes, like Jennifer said, tinted moisturizer would be a good start. I have problems with acne, which I know isn’t as bad as rosacea, but I use a good foundation to cover the worst of it and then powder/blush to help blend my skincolor with the pinkness on my cheeks. I hope you find something that works!

  23. I absolutely loved this. Makeup artist or not, you did a fabulously beautiful job.

    As stated above, you are a natural beauty and really don’t need to do anything, but I understand the use for subtle makeup and you wear it well. It’s very hard for me to do subtle. If you read my blog you will know why.

    I must add that I simply LOVE your fashion sense. The ensemble you have on in the above pics is darling.

  25. Love the pics and the tutorial. The clothes are super cute. Target rocks! I do have to admit that when I need color on my face … a slight pinch of the cheeks and a little bite of my lips get the job done temporarily. Then when I notice my pallor getting pale I repeat the process.

    1. Yeah, it’s too bad biting the lips and pinching the cheeks doesn’t work for longer. But you know, a bit of blush and a little tinted lipgloss does the trick. 🙂

  36. I do a lot of writing for the web but can’t seem to master the videos. You should check out about.com they are always looking for video producers for short items like this and they pay very well. You can check out some of their tutorials on their site to get an idea what they are looking for. Most look very easy (for someone that knows what they are doing-not me).

    1. Thank you! I always wondered why mascara application came out clumpy on so many women; I’ve never had it do that to me. Perhaps it’s a sign of using too much.

    1. I will put that on my list of tutorials to consider! I rarely use eyeliner now that I have glasses (any dark makeup with glasses on me just makes it look heavy and overdone), so it would be fun to do makeup out of my norm.

    1. Nope, I’m not a makeup artist (like I said in the video and the blog title.) 🙂 This was just a quick tutorial a friend asked me to do. I had no intentions that it would draw so many people to my blog! And makeup is definitely something I think of as “all girls can do that” but… when a friend asks me to do a tutorial, why not? 🙂
      There are definitely a lot of makeup channels on youtube. And they’re much better (and more interesting) than I am.

  54. Helps if you start out w/ nice dark lashes like yours! I’ve been using a liquid liner from Physician’s Formula (that is supposed to also boost your lashes…we’ll see about that) that I really like.

  60. Very simple and cute! My daughter wears her eye makeup like this. It always looks so flattering and natural on her, too. I do mine slightly different, but have started doing it her way for a different look. I see you wear glasses, as do both my daughter and I. That is why I usually wear my eye makeup a little heavier (darker), and add eyeliner, because glasses make it harder to tell your wearing any makeup and I need to accentuate my eyes more — unless I’m wearing my frameless glasses.

    I love your pics, too. Nice job on the tutorial. You kept it simple and easy.

    1. You know, I tend to do the opposite– since I have glasses, I have to wear less eye makeup. Without glasses, I could wear eyeliner and more shadow than I do now, but with my glasses– perhaps because the frame is a bit thicker– darker shadows and eyeliners tend to make it just look too heavy on me. 🙂 But I generally have always liked less makeup on myself, so that could also be why.

    1. I agree. Makeup is to enhance, not to overwhelm! 🙂 But it is fun to play with; I think the only reason I’ve ever worn tons of makeup was for the fun of it rather than thinking it made me more beautiful.

    The only eye makeup I usually use is eyeliner, but for nights out or special occasions, I venture into eye shadow / mascara. Eye shadow is one of those things that I’ve never really known how to use properly, so I’ll definitely be trying out your techniques next time. Thanks! 🙂

  81. I’m thankful for you being awarded Freshly Pressed because I found your blog! As a very busy Mom I slowly of fell out of caring much about how I coordinated my clothing/make up. Recently, I started putting more effort in and caring about how I present myself, ie. not leaving house with my hair wet and in a pony tail etc. I have needed an update in how I applied fast make-up and here you are with the tips! I call them angel moments–getting what I need (information, tips, clothing, meals) from an outside source just when I need them.
    Congratulations on your Freshly Pressed status and thank you for the fashion tips too.
    How about a full face “quick” make up presentation? Maybe one with at least blusher, lipstick/lip stain.

Just goes to show that you don’t have to spend a lot of money, OR wear the entire makeup line at once to look great. 🙂 I have been pretty into Bare Minerals for the last few years, but Maybelline does make some killer eye palettes…for lipstick, Revlon has become my go to. Good job on your tutorial, and congrats on being Freshly Pressed!

  96. maybe you should’ve called it ” the invisible make-up tutorial” cuz you look the same with or without it. so, why would anyone apply product on their faces just to look exactly the same? nothing improved. that’s way too much of a natural look to be called nonetheless a “make-up” tutorial.

    1. Haha! Well, I already had makeup on before I did the eyeshadow (foundation and blush), and like I said in the video, I only did it at a friend’s request. 🙂 And it IS supposed to look very natural.

    1. Thank you! I’m sorry to disappoint, but I’m actually not wearing any lipstick– that’s my natural lip color. I’ve been looking for something close to it, though, since I don’t generally wear a lot of lip color, so if I do find something close, I’ll let you know!

      1. WOW! That’s fantastic. If you do find something, I’d love to know. Wouldn’t it be create if make-up companies could do what home improvement companies have been doing for a while now. Scan in any color and then duplicate it in lipstick, blush, nail polish, etc. Now, granted, that would mean having them scan your lips, BUT, on the upside you could get a cut of the profits and of course they would have to name the color MARA. :o)
