Pushing Daisies
One of my absolute favorite shows is Pushing Daisies, and to anyone who has never seen it, I say: stop reading this post, find the show, and watch it. I don’t care if you have to beg, borrow, or steal it (okay… probably don’t steal it), you must watch it! Especially if you’re fond of modern fairytales that are charming, colorful, quirky, and just all-around good.
The main girl in the show, Charlotte Charles, aka “Chuck” is one of my biggest style idols, and has been ever since I started watching the show. She has that perfect modern-retro look, and I would wear any of the outfits she wears on the show. Especially this, this, and this.
So today, I was quite pleased that this outfit looked very much like something Chuck might wear. And aside from being inspired by Chuck, I am also participating in Jess and Salazar’s Style Imitating Art this week, AND I stole Jess’s idea to wear a scarf as a belt. Although the latter was more like I remembered that I did that last year because she did it and looked pretty fantastic, so I had to do it again.
Mr. Owl and I discovered an Elementary school nearby that I am sure will be used in many upcoming outfit shoots. There are so many places to take pictures there! With its variety of locations, from the brick walls of the school to the long parade of whitewashed window frames, to the cement courtyard to the playground to the flowers, I think we’ll be able to take quite a few pictures there during the summer without ever repeating a location. I was incredibly excited about all the possiblities; I am not yet brave enough to have Mr. Owl take pictures of me in more public locations– the most we’ve ever done is the side of a road in the evening–, so to find a place that will most likely be empty for the summer and has so many good places to photograph… is super exciting.
And I just can’t resist the daisies that were growing there. Just as we were about to leave the school, I decided that it would be a good idea to hop into the middle of the flowerbed of daisies and pretend I was one of them.
Let me tell you, it is absolutely impossible to be anything but happy when you are standing in the middle of a bunch of daisies that are nearly as tall as you. I felt like I was in a fairytale.
And then I started to hear cars drive by and car doors slam and I wondered if someone would come up and get upset at me for standing in the middle of the daisies. And then I wondered if we could get charged for that. You know, like some sort of defacement of public property? Only it would be… slight smooshing of public daisies?
I don’t know what I would do if we ever got yelled at or shooed away for taking pictures somewhere. Have any of you ever gotten turned away from a location, or discovered and yelled at? The worst I’ve ever gotten was one day when we were near a road and some guy yelled out of the window of his bus something about “… your girlfriend!”
I think it was some sort of weird catcall.
{Thrifted} Dress: $9.99 | Shoes: $5.99 | Scarf: $0.99
{Gift} Ring | Earrings
{Total} $16.97
And do you see the look on my face up there? That look is me wondering if the noise I heard coming from the school was a horde of zombies about to burst forth and devour me. This is what happens when locations are secluded and Mr. Owl starts talking about scary things. I like to say I’m not scared of monsters, but if a zombie ever came after me, let’s just say I would be abandoning these heels and acquiring a flame-thrower fast.
On that happy note, have a wonderful Monday!

Side note: I think Mr. Owl looks a little bit like Ned (the main man in Pushing Daisies). Oh, my heart. Mr. Owl is just the perfect blend of Doctor Who, Ned, and Mr. Rochester. *swoon.*

Gorgeous dress, gorgeous location… I’m quite jealous! I did find a lovely location once – a side garden that somehow was unlocked that day. Luckily I didn’t get chased away or yelled at, but every time I went back to that place it was always locked 🙁
P/S: I think you and Mr. Owl would make a great Chuck/Ned! Maybe it’s time for another photo shoot as a couple…

Oh, that’s so sad! Sometimes it’s so tempting to trespass for good locations, hehe!
Thank you! I do, too. I told him we need to have a Pushing Daisies photoshoot soon.

Oh Mara you look stunning! That dress is lovely. I think I would definitely post more outfit pictures if I could find similar stunning locations as you – and perhaps if my boyfriend was a photographer as well 😉

Thank you!
Haha, it’s definitely very helpful to have a photographer boyfriend! Before I had him, most of the outfit pictures had to be by a fence or something to get the camera to focus correctly.

I’ve never seen Pushing Daisies, but I’ve heard so many good things about it! I might have to watch it! Also, I am absolutely in love with your dress. The yellow and print is just perfect, and I love the idea of using a scarf as a belt! How cute!

You must watch it! It’s so good. Especially the first season. It’s really bright and colorful and such a perfect modern fairytale!

Soooo pretty! I absolutely love Pushing Daisies too and wish I could dress like Chuck every single day of my life. I kind of plan to when I get out of grad school and get a job and can afford pretty vintage dresses. I have both seasons of Pushing Daisies on DVD so I think I need to break those out and watch asap.

Me, too! And writing this post, I started thinking how much I really want to watch Pushing Daisies again. I need to get the second season! I have the first one.
And we watched a thing about the Hobbit yesterday; Ned is going to be an elf! It made me even more excited for the Hobbit, if that’s possible.
