… and then, the security guard kicked us out.
These are the pictures that we took in the outdoor shopping center before we got told we had to have permission from the property manager to take pictures. The security guard really was very nice when he told us; he apologized for having to tell us to stop, and really he was just doing his job. But I don’t understand: I’ve heard of bloggers who have been shooed away because they have to have a photography license for commercial photography (aka, professional money-making photoshoots) in order to shoot somewhere, and if he had told us that was the case, maybe we would have been able to convince him it was just for a fashion blog.
But I’ve never heard of being shooed away from a public place because you have to have permission from the property manager. It’s not like it’s a gated community. It’s a shopping center, open to all public. So why not take pictures there?
There are only two reasons I can think of why: the privacy of anyone in the background, or there could be some sort of copyright (or whatever it would be called) with the stores and they didn’t want us photographing and stealing ideas. But as you can see, there was nobody in the background and no store names or merchandise in our camera range.
Has anyone else ever been told the same thing? Do you know why?
In other news, I’ve noticed that I have been wearing yellow a lot. I mean, in the past five outfits (this one included) only one didn’t have yellow in it. That might have become my staple color.

I used to work in retail and we wouldn’t let anyone take photos in the store out of respect for other customers (particularly because I worked in the children’s department) so maybe they just have a blanket rule to protect peoples privacy. It does seem like a little bit of an over reaction, then again I got quite rudely questioned by one of my parents neighbours when I was taking outfit photos once though so some people are obviously just weird xo

That I would understand, although we weren’t taking pictures in front of or around any stores where you could see merchandise OR store names. I do understand that they would want to protect other peoples’ privacy, although there weren’t any people around us, so that does make sense.

For the social media inspired fashion, I think I’d be YouTube. Though Twitter is pretty nice as well. 🙂
Yeah, that doesn’t really make sense why you’d be kicked out of a public place. At least he was nice about it. :o)

Yeah, I really like Twitter. 😀
I’m glad he was nice. If he had been mean, it would have made the evening even worse!

Yes, my friends and I were kicked out for taking pictures in a shopping centre as well. We weren’t even in the centre, we were in the parking lot (girls on a night out), it was dark and we taking pictures of each other under the pretty lights when the security guard told us to stop. I still don’t understand why: with that lighting, nobody’s privacy could possibly be violated because no number plates would be readable and no other person was in range.
That first picture is lovely, by the way!
Kristina at Eccentric Owl
That’s too bad! I hope you got at least one good picture out of it!

I’ve never been chased away from any photo location, but once a security guard at the train station told me I was not allowed to set down my tripod – it seems you’re allowed to take pictures, but setting down a tripod requires a permission. I agree with Alice that the overreaction is probably to cover all their bases. Still, you did manage to get some gorgeous photos!
Kristina at Eccentric Owl
That’s really weird! Haha! I wonder if having a tripod makes it too professional looking.

Thanks for linking to my jellyfish photos! You’re sweet 🙂
Also, I’ve never been shooed away yet! I guess I never take photos where people are around for the most part! You did get some lovely photos! I adore the big dots on your dress. It’s so absolutely adorable!
Kristina at Eccentric Owl
You’re welcome! I really love them.
That’s good. Hopefully you never will be! Even though the security guard was really nice, it was so disappointing to be shooed away, and I actually cried later. Then again, I was also sick and emotional, so that could be why.
Thank you!
Sushi

Ugh that’s so stupid. It’s because shopping centers and malls and such aren’t considered public places. That’s why there can’t be protests or anything of that sort in a mall. I find the no-picture-taking thing quite dumb. They just say no because they can and because they aren’t profiting off of your using their space to take pictures.
You look really cute in your dotted dress, though! Luckily you got a few cute shots in!
Kristina at Eccentric Owl
Yeah, it is dumb. Oh, well! I’m really glad the few shots we did get actually turned out, because it was such a beautiful place! And I’m wondering if we can find a way to actually have permission to shoot there. It would be awesome.
Thank you!
