Polkadot skirt and Pregnancy
I have found my skirt soul-mate.
This is the first impulse purchase I have ever made online. Ever. Usually, when I see gorgeous clothing online, I think “it’s so pretty, but I would want to try that on first” or “it’s so pretty, but $x amount for a dress is just out of my spending budget.” But this skirt, you guys. I saw it, I shared it on Facebook with many exclamation points, and then I remembered I had some carefully saved up Paypal money meant for nothing but spending on pretty things.
And I bought it. Within about five minutes of seeing it. (I came, I saw, I purchased. I know. Clever.)
And when it arrived this morning, I was pretty ecstatic. It’s much more flowing and light than I expected, and to be honest if I had seen this in a store and tried it on/played with it, I might have passed it up for the price versus the fabric quality (it’s not bad quality, just not as good as I would have thought given the charge.) But it also had a few light gray spots on the back that looked like someone might have stepped on it with a dirty shoe that didn’t come out when I tried gently washing them. After debating whether I wanted to just return and exchange it, I decided I’d rather just see if Modcloth might offer a partial refund as a discount instead. (Because every time I’ve done an exchange, it’s either taken a month, or the item sells out before I can order a new size. And I’m impatient.) If not, I’d keep it and deal with the discoloration, which is mostly hidden by the swish and sway of the skirt. If they did, then yay!
I fully expected to either have to return and exchange the skirt, or to be offered a small discount, which would have been fair to me. But Modcloth offered me back 50% of the skirt and shipping costs, on the terms that the skirt is now non-returnable, and I am, obviously, very satisfied with that. I would have settled with SO much less, as I’m okay with keeping a slightly damaged skirt when it’s this pretty, has pockets, and is from a company whose customer service is as nice as Modcloth’s. (Also, it’s fully lined, and has a matching belt. Hello, love.)
I have been feeling a lot of ligament pain this week — I guess where I feel it is called round ligament pain (more towards my crotch; in the inner joints of my hips); it mainly strikes while I’m in bed, or when I walk around too much. I was on my feet a lot today, so it’s been the worst this evening! But, I’ve been feeling really good otherwise so I’m thankful that’s the worst of it now!
And I have been feeling the baby kick for about a month! I thought it was way too early and just my imagination back when it started until a friend of mine, who is due 2 days before me, posted that she was feeling early baby flutters. I love it!
We get to find out the sex in about four weeks. I am SO anxious to know what it is; I’ll be honest, I am definitely rooting for a girl. On my husband’s side, there are seven girls and thirteen boys, and on my side there are three girls and five boys. So we need more girls. Plus, you guys, girl clothes are so much cuter. IÂ need a baby I can dress up in frilly skirts and hairbows and polka dots and tights and little shoes!

Not to say that a boy would be unwelcome, though! I’d love for Asa to have a little buddy to just be a total little boy with and run around in the woods (although to be fair, I did that with my brothers, so…).
I’m looking forward to the end of this pregnancy, though. I can’t wait for labor, because labor means baby. Here’s hoping the next 24 weeks go fast.
Have a wonderful weekend! Happy Friday!

P.S. Full honesty: after taking these pictures and realizing heels are just no longer in the picture for this pregnant woman, I wore the skirt with these sandals. Which I would have worn for the pictures had I remembered they were in my possession, but uh… pregnant brain. I really need to organize my shoes. And get more flat or low-heeled ones.

Really cute outfit – and I think that it’s really awesome to see a company with such amazing customer service. Then again, I have been living in Germany for the past 5+ years, so expecting great customer service is just something I have completely given up on. I am wondering if there is any way to possibly try to remove the stains on the back of the skirt (and also wondering how they got there in the first place?!) but I am sure it is not at all too noticeable! And besides, the skirt looks great on you! You have such a tiny waist!
Also it’s really cute that you disclosed that small fact about flat shoes. And “pregnant brain” haha – I have heard about this before, but have yet to experience it myself. It must be so beautiful, tiring, scary, and wonderful at the same time!

Thank you, Rae! I haven’t felt like my waist is tiny since being pregnant, since I’m used to a smaller waistline!
I’ve heard that customer service in other countries is vastly different from America (I read about an American who moved to Ireland, and she was surprised to find that customers bag their own groceries. She didn’t think it was a bad thing, just SO different from America where cashiers bag groceries! And return policies are not as flexible there; here, sometimes I’m shocked at things you can return to the store — opened packages, used makeup, etc. I would never return those things myself, but I know people who have!)
I am going to try a few things to remove the stains, but my initial attempt didn’t do any good. Thankfully, it’s on the back of the skirt and mostly hidden by folds of the skirt, and it’s relatively light.
Haha, yes, I think memory gets worse with every pregnancy! Pregnancy has never been scary for me, mostly just wonderful and sometimes hard (morning sickness and things like that).

I think these kind of full vintage style circle skirts do wonders for making a waist look small – esp. if you have curvy hips. I unfortunately was not blessed in the hip department, so although my waist is small, it never looks that small in comparison to the rest of me. Oh how I dream of having curves! But I think your waist really does look small here!
Customer service is just something that doesn’t exist in most other parts of the world. I can’t speak for the whole world, but based on my personal experiences I really think that customer service is a very American thing, to the point of being silly sometimes where a customer could be being blatantly outright rude, but people working in the service field just sort of have to keep their cool and remember the famous mantra “The customer is always right”. Some customers really abuse this. I think customer service is pretty strong in places like Japan and Korea as well and in very high-end expensive places all around the world, but in Europe it doesn’t really exist like in the US, ESP (as I mentioned) not in Germany. In Germany if there is a problem, people in service jobs who might even be doing a horrible job will blame the customer or act as if you are inconveniencing them or are too dumb to comprehend anything or that they just can’t do anything about it and don’t care! Of course this is a generalization, but this is 9 times out of 10 the case.
If it is on the back of the skirt, it probably isn’t the biggest deal 🙂
I cannot wait until I get to experience pregnancy myself one day, although being the hypochondriac that I am, I am sure I will be freaking out and worrying every step of the way.

Hey, even if you have a girl, she might prefer jeans and t-shirt. Like my sister, it’s the opposite – she’s a total tomboy, but my niece turns out to be the girliest girl ever. You just never know 🙂

That is true, but for the first few years I’d be in charge of dressing her, so I’d get to put her in fluffy things until she grew up enough to decide for herself, haha! Forced girliness. 😉 My mom was a total tomboy, and I, very obviously, am not; and conversely, my aunt is really, really girly, and her oldest daughter – same age as me – was more tomboyish. It’s funny how that works out!

This is your first online impulse purchase ever? You have much more self-control than I. 😛 It looks eminently worth it, though.Everyone needs a quality polka-dot skirt.
Oh lord, little-girl clothes…sometimes I want a baby for literally no other reason than to dress it up. And then I go “Skye, the word you’re looking for is *doll*. Not another human being.”
Also, I always appreciate it when bloggers are upfront about flaws in their clothing. Glossing over them comes off like shilling for the brand, so I definitely value honesty there.

Yes, is that surprising? I am actually a pretty calculating shopper, despite having a LOT of skirts and dresses. Online purchases are really hard for me to make, because I can’t touch and feel the fabric, try it on, see how the skirt sways, etc. So I rarely make online purchases, and when I do, I always wait about a week to see if I really want what I’m online-shopping for. And even in thrift stores, I tend to grab items, try them on, decide whether they’d fit my life/wardrobe, then keep them in the cart and wander for a while as I continue to deliberate whether I want the items.
But at the dollar thrift store, I HAVE grabbed a few wool skirts and gotten them regardless because… they were a dollar, and also plaid, and also wool. So, you know. I had to.

I can totally understand your affair with that skirt because it reminds me of one I used to have and had to get rid of when I lost weight. Those twirly ones are so hard to find so you gotta snatch them up when you find them!
I wish you so much patience for your pregnancy. Asa is stinkin’ adorable so clearly you make cute kids. A girl or another boy would be equally great!

Yeah this skirt is amazing. It should be a pretty versatile piece! That’s fantastic that Modcloth gave you half the price of the skirt for its issues.
Also I’m excited to see what sex your baby is too! You’re right that girls can run around in the woods too! I sure did!
