Paisley, strappy flats, and a big hat

The leaves are finally turning orange, the air is getting crisp, and Starbucks has come out with their Pumpkin Spice flavor. That, my friends, means that it is definitely and irrevocably fall. Nevermind that the actual first day of the season is still 14 days away. (On Bilbo and Frodo’s birthday, I might add!) This paisley dress with its turquoise accents and full skirt is the perfect way to welcome in the season.

Falling For Fall

I always feel a thrill when I can say that 80% of my outfit is thrifted.

It used to be that I was embarrassed so much of what I wore was from the thrift store. I felt as though my impecunious state was revealed through what I wore, even though my outfits were always exactly what I wanted to put on my body. Bloggers whose style I admired often purchase beautiful things from PUG or Bernie Dexter, or have Modcloth-stuffed wardrobes, and I sat on the sidelines eyeing their range of novelty prints and feeling a little less for having found most of what I owned on a very, very small budget.  Paisley, strappy flats, and a big hat | kristinasuko.comPaisley, strappy flats, and a big hat | kristinasuko.com

But now, I am quite happy with the state of my wardrobe. Thrifting has become a way to find vintage pieces that no one else has. It’s a way to hunt for treasure, to make my wardrobe truly unique, and to save money while I’m at it! And, thrifting means that I get to fulfill my dreams in the most unique way!

A wicker purse has been on my  “things I need to find while thrifting” list for a long time. It may be the item I’ve been searching for the longest! To me, wicker purses are the epitome of a vintage look; they popped up everywhere throughout the eras that I love best, and on all of my favorite blogs. But every wicker purse I found online that I liked was far out of my budget. Especially when I have two kids who will inevitably find a way to destroy my accessories. Then, lucky me, on Goodwill’s Labor Day sale, I saw this purse hanging there in all its perfect wicker glory, just begging to be purchased (for three dollars!) and my dreams were fulfilled! This September is full of plans.

I hope to have a series of Halloween costume outfits that you can totally recreate on a budget (or from your closet!), some very fall and spooky photoshoots, and, of course, lots of fall outfits. The fall season, to me, is always between September and November. After that, it becomes Christmas season, then New Year’s celebrations, and after that… the annual “I am so tired of winter” season.

Here in Washington, our winters are not dreamy and white and snowy; if we do get snow, it’s not until January. Otherwise, it’s wet. Rainy. Cold. Gray. Mushy. Not at all a fun season, and it seems that the winter mush hangs around the most! Perhaps I’ll revive all of my accessories, which often sit unused on my dresser! This owl necklace was the perfect match for the turquoise colors in the paisley of my dress, and I had to wear it. I did, however, shorten it into a choker with the help of a safety pin.    Paisley, strappy flats, and a big hat | kristinasuko.comPaisley, strappy flats, and a big hat | kristinasuko.com

I am glad to officially announce the resurgence of my YouTube channel, though!

If you haven’t subscribed to my YouTube channel yet, please do; I try to take footage of every outfit I photograph these days, and often my outfit video goes up before my blog post does. It’s super fun choosing the perfect music to match the video, and I hope you enjoy them as much as I do. Hopefully, making these videos will keep me creative throughout the seasonal changes!

What are you doing to keep yourself entertained this fall?

I’m getting some serious Amy Flying a Kite vibes here. Love it! That fourth shot down of the hat in silhouette is *stunning*. I lingered on it for a good thirty seconds.

And seriously, more power to thrifters. All the power to thrifters! I find repro sites like PUG, etc. boring for the same reason I find mall clothes boring: there’s no hunt! Turning over every single garment in a shop is so uniquely satisfying to me, even if I don’t come away with anything. I have a few pieces of expensive vintage that I’ve saved up for, but I never feel compelled to brag about that – what I always want to brag about are the dresses I got for a dollar.

Great post. You had me cracking up about the changing seasons. I can completely relate to some of that. AND…you look so pretty! Although your budget may be small, your style is not! You have so much unique style! I love seeing the outfits you put together. Glad you were able to snag that wicker purse. Very cute! I will check out your youtube vids!
