S is for Scarlet

S is for Seriously Swooshy Skirt!

No, actually it’s for Scarlet. 😀 AND Seriously Swooshy Skirt.

I like my belt. And this skirt. AND my earrings:

OWLS! I LOVE these. If you watch the hair tutorial video, you can hear how much they jangle. And I have decided that owls will be my signature. I think I’ll do a daily owl picture on Twitter. 😀

This bracelet was hand-made by a street vendor in New Mexico. My daddy bought it for me. I think the stone is beautiful.

Hair tutorial! Sadly, my accidental British accent is gone. Must mean I need to watch more miniseries. (Confession: I have another version of Jane Eyre right now that I’m watching. I’ve seen it before, but I don’t remember very much about it.Also, the new version of Jane Eyre (which looks like it’s going to be TERRIBLE) comes out on the eleventh, and because I’ve seen every other version there is, I feel obligated to go.)

Tootles!

The title of your entry reminded of the second of “Julia Quinn’s Top Five Reasons Why It’s Good to Be a Romance Writer”:

“You get to be Queen of the World. (Or at least of your characters.)

I have a lot of writing friends who say things like “I had wanted my plot to go one way, but my characters wouldn’t allow it.” My reaction to this is always, “Huh?”
My characters know who’s boss. Me. (Okay, now I’m starting to scare myself. I shall repeat ad nauseam: “My characters are not real people. My characters are not real people…”) But seriously, who needs therapy when you can control your own little world?”

Also, I always enjoy you videos, ’cause I love the way you speak, and your overall… attitude? Very cute. You sound quite soothing and fun to be around… if “soothing” and “fun” can work together. 😀

Yeah, I love being a romance writer… or just a writer in general. I can live vicariously through my characters. And the men do what I tell them to do. Mostly. 😀 HAHA! *ahem*

Honestly, I have had moments of “Oh crap, this isn’t going where I want it to go, my characters have hijacked my story!” but that’s usually because I had a better idea, and then realized that because of that better idea, I couldn’t use an original scene that I’d wanted to use. So in a way, sometimes I *can’t* go the way I wanted to go because my characters have progressed differently than I originally imagined they would– which is actually happening right now with Sweet Ireland Air– but it’s due to the fact that the story wouldn’t have worked out– in the world I gave it– the way I thought it could.

Awww, thank you. Soothing and fun… could totally work together. I’ll make you laugh while also making you fall asleep. (To date, I’ve had four friends fall asleep while I was talking to them. They say it’s because I have a soothing voice.)

Love the outfit! Hahaha, Seriously Swooshy Skirt is a perfectly acceptable substitute for a color xD Those boots are tooo cuuute! Haha, I loove boots, especially in the winter. Currently I have two pairs of combat lookalike boots, one pair really worn out, and one pair with a pointed toe, and a good solid heel. Hahahaha, I always threaten to stomp on peoples toe’s when I have them on 😀
We seem to have the same length of hair, but sadly mine never behaves… Getting it cut really short on April Fool’s though 😀 I’m rambling.. Love the outfit, and my characters have had an uprising, and thrown me from power recently.. no inspiration whatsoever lately :/ Have fun with the Jane Eyre!

😀 I thought it was a legitimate substitute because of the amazing alliteration. Hehehe. I love boots, too! Right now, I really, really want a pair of rain boots. Seeing as I live in Washington and it’s… always rainy season. And rain boots are fun. Your boots sound amazing!
Know why I put my hair up all the time? It never behaves when it’s down. One side flips out, the other side flips under, the back bumps up in a weird place on one side and goes totally flat on the other, and the only part of my hair that I can seem to manage when it’s down is my bangs. So… yes. I put my hair up all the time. 😀

Oh no! Take back the power. You are the Queen of your own little world. 😀
I didn’t actually watch Jane Eyre after all. I keep wanting to write instead.

Yay! Thank you so much for the hair tutorial, I shall endeavour to actually make my hair do that (except I don’t have bangs, so it will end up looking completely different) and wear it like that to work tomorrow.
But, it definitely looks much snazzier than my every day ponytail/bun thing I wear for school, so I think that your hairstyle definitely doesn’t fit in that category. Also, I felt like a fan-girl when you mentioned my name in the video, haha. Dorkiest moment I’ve had all week. Though it sounds so different in an American accent than an Australian one.
So yet again, thank you thank you, and sorry for being late in my reply, this week’s been a bit hectic for me :/

    • Mara

You’re welcome! I hope it works out for you. To me, it really is just as if I were throwing my hair back in a ponytail. Easy, don’t have to think about it, lazy. 😀

Now I want to find a video where someone says Georgia with an Australian accent. I can sort of imagine it, but I want to know if my imagining is correct. 😀 hehe.
It’s okay! I’m not exactly the fastest responder in the world most days, and I don’t even have a hectic life to blame that on.

      • Georgia

I hope I can definitely utilise the hairstyle so it becomes kind of lazy for me. It’s good, lazy but gorgeous 🙂
Well, my friend wanted me to start a vlog, so I’ll have to say it for you if I do. I don’t really know how I’ll go though. I don’t really have anything interesting to say >.<

BRING BACK THE BRITISH ACCENT hahahahah.

This is actually a really good hair tutorial. You are so lucky with your hair..thats it after you wash it. And I heart your fringe. Ive always wanted a great fringe like that but my hair is too weird.

    • Mara

I totally agree. I need to watch more British movies and maintain the accent. 😀

haha! It feels so weird to be doing/explaining something for the camera that I find mundane and everyday! But it gave me a good vlog subject. And your hair looks to be about the same texture as mine. I’m pretty sure you could pull it off. 😀
