I think the only thing I will miss about the old house when we move is this tree. This tree is fantastic for photoshoots, whether I’m using it to pose with, or as a prop for my camera to sit on. The back yard is beautiful as well, and the driveway has been quite handy. There isn’t as much privacy at the new house– it’s in a neighborhood– so I’ll have to either get over my shyness of being seen photographing myself, or find more creative and sneaky ways to do photoshoots where nobody can see me.
Or perhaps I will get brave and scout out locations that aren’t at my house. There is a graveyard close, and also the waterfront.
And I think you all should be impressed that I got up into this tree in seven seconds (the time it takes for the shutter to start clicking) without killing myself. In heels.
Although I did have a lot of awkward faces when I was looking at the camera, due to my trying to concentrate on not falling out of the tree.
I have now discovered the amazing comfort of leggings. I need more sweaters to wear over these babies, because I do not want to wear pants ever again. Leggings are amazing. I don’t know why I Â never tried them before. Other than the fact that I thought long sweaters looked odd on me. But they look so much better over leggings. AH! I love these.
Another thing I love? This sweater. I have to admit, I’ve sort of been living in this sweater since I bought it on Saturday. It is the best sweater EVER.
In other news, the sun was trying to eat my head. I think out of all my owls, I like these the least. That’s not to say I don’t like them– how I could I dislike them? They’re owls!– but they’re not really my favorite. This is actually the first time I’ve worn them, and I’ve had them for at least two months.
I’m actually a little surprised that I like this sweater so much, given that it’s a very western/American Indian print, and I’m not really into that style of clothing. Or decorating. Or anything. But there’s something about this particular sweater that appeals to me. It could be that it’s warm. And comfortable. And colorful. Because if an item is all three of those things, it’s almost irresistible. (Add in shiny and owls, and I’m sold.)
I may have decided that during the owl-a-day challenge, I will blog Monday-Friday, because otherwise I lose interest too quickly. Challenges need to be consistent with me, and I don’t really like having a backlog of pictures to show you. You all know how that goes. I tend to forget to show you the backlogged pictures in favor of current ones. So we’ll see.
I hope you are all having a good Monday! I’m going to get back on packing and cleaning.
Not that I really ever was legitimately ON doing that… but… I should get to it.

I like the sweater!
And oh, you’re moving? I was just telling my boyfriend the other day how the house we buy must have a garden, ’cause I’m so jealous of you… 😉
Mara
Yes, we’re moving! I think I mentioned it in an earlier post, briefly. Hehe, I love that you told your boyfriend you have to have a house with a garden because of me! I’m sad to leave the back yard here, but overall the other house is WAY better (translation: it has a dishwasher. AH! Joy.) 😀

I have to find this sweater. Was it like a clearance thing? Because I’ve been dying for something tribal/ indianish and I think this sweater is perfect.
Mara
It was clearance, yeah. Hopefully you can find one!

Ohhh these photos are fantastic! Love the outfit, love the tree! As I don’t do outfit posts, I don’t understand how embarrassing it must be to be seen taking pictures of yourself. I found this post about it really interesting though – http://www.littlebirdfashion.com/2011/06/secret-shame-of-daily-outfit-blogger.html

Thank you!
I think for me, it feels like people might think I’m excessively vain to photograph myself. So it’s just… odd to be watched. Even if people know me and know I’m a blogger, I don’t like being watched, and I don’t like having other people take my outfit pictures (although the latter is also partly because I like having complete control over how the pictures are taken.) It’s less awkward when someone else is taking pictures — to be seen, I mean– because then you can pretend it was the other person’s idea, you know? And seems less like it’s going to be perceived as vanity and more like it’s a real photoshoot.
That is an interesting take!

I just had to say that I love your blog. I think you are funny and just so awesome. I love all of your outfits so much. Keep on blogging! =]
Mara
Thank you so much! I’m glad you enjoy it! I will. 🙂

That sweater is really cute and looks perfect with your boots. The owl earrings are fantastic too.

That tree is awesome! 😀
Also, I really like those owl earrings, and I LOVE your boots. And those leggings look really good on you.

Isn’t it? I am really going to miss the tree. But I think this will force me to go outside of my comfort zone and be more creative with my pictures. So I’m sad to leave my tree, but interested to see how this will effect my outfit photos.
Thank you! 😀

Love the tree too..wonder what stories it could tell, being photographed so much and being famous and stuff 😉
All the best in the packing and moving!!
Mara
It would be interesting to hear the stories of the tree. 😀 Hehe.

Hi Mara, I feel like it’s time I introduce myself. I’ve been stalking your blog ever sense you were freshly pressed because I have been so inspired by your clever sense on fashion. I’ve always really loved vintage apparel but had no clue how to use it properly. You have provided me with many great fashion tips, so thanks.

Ah yes, I’m sure you’ll miss the tree and your backyard in general, but it’s ok. You’ll get used to the new environment! And it’s a neighborhood?? Hmm…the waterfront sounds good! The cemetery sounds creepy lol! But I’m sure you’ll figure it out!
As for the outfit, YES YES YES! This veeeeeery moment I’m wearing black leggings with a sweater and it feels so comfy! Your sweater is really to die for, there’s nothing I don’t love about it! It’s gorgeous, simply gorgeous! The colors, the print, EVERYthing! And the owl earrings are sooo cuuute! Ok, you’re right, they’re not my favorite owl thing of yours, but they’re sooo cuute! 😀
Mara
I will so miss it! And of course the cemetery sounds creepy! Creepy is what I do. Hehehe.
Isn’t it pretty? I really love how different it is. That’s probably what I was drawn to. 😀 I agree, the earrings are cute. But they’re not my favorite.

Oh I am so going to miss the photos that you take in this yard. I love it. I live in an old house and woudn’t mind a new one but with an old growth yard. I can’t stand bare yards. Maybe you could make a sort of little teepee with beautiful fabrics. thread some great curtains or cloth onto a large stick or dowel rod and hang it somewhere or drape in any tree available. Thin fabric will give a nice filter for the sun.
Mara
Me either! The new yard has pretty foliage in the back, thankfully, but it’s not as amazing as this yard.
That’s true, fabric would give a nice sun-filter. I might be too lazy to actually do that, though. 😉

That tree is fantastic. And so are those boots! I’ve been trying to find a stylish pair of leather boots that aren’t outrageous….
Mara
Me, too! I finally chanced upon these at Goodwill, after months and months of searching. (Because I don’t really want to spend $40 on a pair of boots. Even if they ARE pretty.) 😉 Good luck!

Hi there! I’m a new follower and I have to say that I absolutely love your style! So glad to have found you.
Mara
Hello, and thank you! I was browsing your blog and I have to say, I like your style too! I ought to get over there and actually comment. 😉
Jennifer
It took me far too long to comment on this.
Firstly: Leggings ARE amazing. I love them. However, I have to limit myself on how often I wear them or it would be…..all the time. Big sweaters, long tunics, etc….just pair perfectly with them. Shoes can be flats, heels or boots. They are just an amazingly versatile, fashionable and comfortable clothing accessory everyone should own.
Secondly: The “western” print isn’t my style at all, but I absolutely LOVE your sweater and you wear it amazingly well. It really looks great with the leggings and boots (and jewelry, of course).
Lastly: It’s amazing what we think we can’t wear until we try it. We should try about any piece of clothing we are afraid of, at least once. Not necessarily in public, but try them on and see if we really might be able to rock the look. And you rock the leggings indeed!!!
I have absolutely no curves to my hips (or very very minor ones) so I am self conscious about that. I like to pair them with sweaters and such as well. Also with mini skirts.
I love your style. I’ve said it before and I’m sure I will say it again. The world needs more expressively dressed people. Not the followers of fashion, but those who set their own. You do it so well……..
