The 70’s called: they think I’m fabulous.
I have a confession to make: I was absolutely terrified to wear this in public. Don’t get me wrong: I ADORE this dress (kimono, caftain, 1970’s “At Home Wear” from Sears (that’s what the tag says) whatever it is) and I have no issues swanning around in it at home. In fact, I’m pretty sure it’ll be my go-to wear when I’m pregnant enough to feel like a whale. It’s going to fit me the entire way through.
But in public? I mean… how many women under 70 do you see wearing a garment like this? Ever? 
In Washington, that number is approximately… like… one. Me. It took all I had not to change before Mr. Owl and I went to the Sunday family gathering. I’m glad I wore it, though. The husband is a little bit skeptical about it (and let’s just say it’s because he doesn’t like maxi dresses), but nobody asked why I was dressed like crazy, so that’s good!
I think this is the first time I’ve ever done a “brave” fashion thing. People I know call me brave for always wearing dresses and skirts, but that’s not bravery. That’s my comfort level. I get incredibly self-conscious wearing jeans or shorts, I can’t even tell you. I don’t know how to style them and I never have. But dresses and skirts? So easy to wear.
Except for this gorgeous dress, because it is so far out there even my mom didn’t comment that she’d worn something like this when she was my age. I got told by my loving husband that this is what his 90 year old aunt used to wear.
To which I retorted, “well, then she had awesome style.”
I think wearing it out and about may have won him over in the end, though, or at least his comments weren’t meant to be discouraging, because after a while he admitted it looked fine.
But this is my brave fashion choice. A 1970’s (or even possibly 60’s: does anyone know what the “At Home Wear” tag might date to? I’ll take a picture of it on instagram (@owleccentric) and you can tell me if you know) caftain that will fit me through my entire pregnancy. I’m in love with it.
Also, I think the more pregnant I get, the crazier my fashion tastes are becoming. So this could get interesting!

Isn’t it fantastic? I can’t get over the pattern, especially. And once I realized that there’s a little elastic band and button on the inside to adjust the flowiness, I loved it even more.
It’s so fun to get crazy with fashion; I think pregnancy has made me more body-confident, which in turn has made me more bold in fashion choices.

The print looks awesome, but man, I can only imagine what the fabric feels like. That close-up shot of your face is gorgeous, btw.
I don’t think I made too many “brave” fashion choices, but probably my loudest piece would be my 1970’s bright green graphic dress (got to love the 70s. They gave us so many fabulously questionable trends, just second to the 80s I think.)

My hair is probably the bravest fashion choice i did against EVERYONE’S opinion, haha. They all said it’d be terrible, but I wanted to do it since I was like 16 so off it went 😉 And I LOVE this dress (also the title haha). You should make brave decisions more often- it looks so gorgeous on you. Those colors look so great with your hair and skin tone too 🙂

I love this dress and your peacock earrings are so pretty! My mom used to make comments about my style when I was younger. I always wore bright colors (and still do) but I would clash odd color pairings and wear as many patterns as I could at once (polka dot skirt, striped top, floral scarf all at once). Now my clothes are still bright but less clash-y. If I wear something dark, like all black or grey, THAT’s when I get the odd look haha.

I used to go shopping and pick out the weirdest things I could find and then when I had to get dressed and leave the house I’d wear four or five of the items at once, whether they matched or not. I also tended to buy colored eyeliner and layer it like eyeshadow. And then I started wearing jeans and tshirts all the time. I don’t know what happened, maybe I was suddenly crushingly self-conscious. Anyway, I want that dress. It looks awesome! If anyone knows where I can find one, LEMME KNOW!
