Strange Confessions
So let me tell you a little secret. It’s one of those secrets I keep in my “things moms do to not shower” corner. It’s called “Put a Scarf on It!”
Aka… I have gone like four days without showering, and I had to go out in public, so today scarves are my best friend. Because when there’s a scarf covering up my hair, nobody can see how bad it is. If it’s really bad, I put my hair up before I scarf it. But today it’s just at that line where you sort of need to shower at the roots, but the ends are actually the nice, supple, perfectly wavy hair you get when you’ve slept on and brushed out curls a few times. So that’s one of the other things you may not have known about me: I only shower every three or four days. I don’t actually like showers that much, or baths. I hate having dry skin, and showers/baths both give me dry skin.
I was thinking about that list of little known facts about me that I made a few weeks ago (or whenever that was), and you know… I never think about the really unknown weird things until I’m actually doing them.
Like how in restrooms I tend to peek at the person’s shoes in the stall next to me to see if I can guess what they’ll look like when they come out. (Yes, weird, I know.) I’ve always noticed feet, though, so um… yes. I also make up fake interviews with myself while I’m washing dishes, or driving alone, or pretty much anytime I’m by myself and have nothing else to do with my life. Sometimes I do them in random accents. Sometimes I pretend I’m famous for having published my novels, sometimes it’s because I’m famous for my blog, sometimes it’s because I’m an actress (which I’ve never wanted to be, actually.)
And I used to pretend I was the characters I write about, but I don’t do that any more. Mostly because I no longer need to pretend I’m in a romantic relationship. You know. It’d be weird if I did.
I… yeah. Those are the real “things you didn’t know about me” facts. And on the subject of feet, which I was two paragraphs ago, I have always hated it when people don’t take care of their feet. When they have long toenails, or super dry callouses, or really dirty toes, or jagged nails… grosses me out. So I don’t like to be touched by other peoples’ feet. Haha! Not that that happens a whole lot, but… if my husband hasn’t clipped his toenails properly, I dislike playing footsies with him.
So what other slightly weird and/or embarrassing facts about me can I overshare? We’ve covered not showering, checking out peoples’ feet in public restrooms, self-interviews, foot aversions… um… I have really crooked lower teeth? And not just one or two crooked teeth; I mean super crooked. Apparently my mouth is small (every dentist ever has said that) so I have too many teeth for my jaw.
In fact, I have four wisdom teeth, and I’ve already had two pulled. (So yes, I once had six.)
Oh, and I like my knees. Which is pretty much something I’ve never heard any female say about herself ever. I don’t know what it is with the whole women-hating-their-knees thing, but I like mine. So… yay for body confidence about really random things?
This turned out to be a much weirder post than I had expected. That’s what happens when I write blog posts late at night. Oops.

I hope you are all having a good week so far! This week has been a pretty quiet one for me, considering I’ll be in a flurry of moving soon. I really need to start organizing and tossing stuff throughout the house, but I’m… well, I’m sort of a last-minute person when it comes to packing, so most likely I’ll pack everything up two days before we move it out. Haha!
Happy Wednesday!

Haha, I love random facts… so much that I think this might be a random fact about me.
I also have interviews with myself!! I wonder what that means…
Cute outfit as always x

I don’t know! Haha, maybe… we’re dreamers? Or something. 😉 I think interviewing other people would be fun, too, though.

Haha! You’re too funny. I in the same boat with showering. I’m not a very smelly person, so it’s just not necessary to do every day. Dry shampoo is my best friend when it comes to extending my hair’s life by a day or two.

Yeah, I really need to get some dry shampoo! And thankfully I’m not extra smelly or sweaty (sitting at home for work helps!) so generally I don’t need daily showers!

I actually dislike showering very much, primarily because it makes me so cold! So I have scarf tricks of my own! 🙂

I’m so glad I’m not the only one!

I totally do self-interviews too!! Usually I’m an actress, or married to one (naming no names) in them. 🙂 Hmmm, interesting about looking at people’s shoes…how often are your assumptions right?
Btw- how in the world do you get a scarf to stay in your hair?! I have the hardest time wearing scarves and head bands because after a while (even with bobbies) they slip right off. It always makes me think of that scene from the movie Sahara:
Al: Ah, how do you put this thing on, anyway?
Dirk: What? Just wrap it around your noggin.
Al: Which part, this?
[Holds up end of turban fabric]
Al:….
Dirk: Yeah.
Al: [Tries again. Pulls the fabric from his head]
Well, how come yours stays on?!
Dirk: Maybe you have a small head.
Al: I don’t think so. Someone would have told me.
🙂

Haha! I LOVE that part of Sahara!!
It really depends on the scarf material– this one is made of rougher material so it doesn’t slip and slide as much. Silkier scarves, I try to get larger ones, and then wrap them around twice which helps them to stay. Or, with a bow in the front, I pin both sides of the bow (sliding a bobby pin from the bow, over the bottom part so it’s still hidden by the top part of the bow… I don’t know if that makes sense) and then it generally stays. If I can get the scarf to stay on the top of my head, it doesn’t move around anywhere else.

OK, this makes me laugh. Speaking of shower, I guess I’m like Almanzo Wilder in “The Farmer Boy” – I like the feeling after a shower/bath, but I wish I didn’t have to shower to get that feeling. Alas, if I don’t wash my hair every other day it would start shedding like crazy, and you really have to shower every day when you live in a tropical climate (sometimes twice a day in the height of summer), so I have no choice there.
Eccentric Owl
Well, that too! I wish there was a way to get the feeling of a shower without showering. I do need more showers in the summer… which actually I think I like showering better in the summer, when the air isn’t so dry.

Yay! I love strange confessions. And these are totally new to me, so I think it’pus safe to say you’ve never shared them before (unless I’ve forgotten).
Have you ever tried dry conditioner? Once I was going to a wedding and I hadn’t showered in a couple days, and my hair was a little worse than I realized, so my friend offered to ask her roommate to bring her dry conditioner. I didn’t end up using it (her roommate wasn’t in the dorm at the time), but the idea was it was something I could put in my hair to deal with it without having to take a shower. Do you know of anything like that?
Okay . . . that feet thing is pretty weird. Do you try to figure out age and style based on their feet, or do you also try to guess their facial features?
I think it’s understandable that most women dislike their knees. Knees aren’t particularly attractive. They’re these hard, knobby things in the middle of your legs. They’re just weird! I personally don’t have a problem with my knees, but not because I think they’re attractive, just because I don’t think they’re any less attractive than anyone else’s. 😉
Eccentric Owl
I have used dry shampoo (same as dry conditioner? I’m not sure) and that works pretty well. I just don’t have any on hand right now! Baby powder, which I don’t have either, also works.
I mostly just try to guess the rest of what they might be wearing. Or, at church, I try to figure out who it might be. Haha! I’m more successful at church in guessing who it is. 😀
Avra-Sha Faohla
I meant shampoo. 😉

You are so funny, Sweetie! I loved the comment about the shoes in the next door bathroom and I laughed out loud! Daddy and Isaac wanted to know what I was laughing at and they were rolling on the floor laughing at it. I notice feet, too! Once I recognized someone’s sister in a crowd, because she had the same feet as her.
Sarah
I do the fake interview thing too 🙂
Jeanne
I also wash my hair every 3 days. Is that weird? 😀 Well, it’s also because I work from home. Back when I used to go to school or to work, I usually washed it every other day. And I *used to* to fake interview myself too…
I don’t play at guessing what people in bathrooms look like based on their shoes — although I just may, now that you’ve made me think of it! — but I have always been convinced that you can tell a lot about a person from their shoes. More so than from the rest of their clothing, in my opinion.
Eccentric Owl
Yeah, working from home makes it much less necessary to wash your hair more often! There’s no working up a sweat… and usually the days are pretty clean unless Asa burps up on me or has a blowout diaper…
I think so, too! Shoes can say a lot about a person!
