Outfit Repeating | vintage-inspired maternity outfit

This year, I’m calling it a vintage-inspired maternity outfit. Because it is vintage-inspired, and I am pregnant. Last year, it was just an outfit that made me happy.

One of my biggest goals this year, as I go into pregnancy and maternity wear, is to purchase as little as I have to and make what I already own work. Or, if I truly need something, to make myself vintage-inspired maternity outfits instead of buying them. I’ve fallen into the habit of thrifting almost everything in my wardrobe. But I have a massive excess of both clothing AND fabric, and no real need to buy anything new. Whether it’s thrifted or not, this year I’d like to be far more selective with what I add to my closet.

Whether it be an easy apron, a quick circle skirt, or a more complicated vintage dress pattern. I have a plethora of fabrics and trims and vintage buttons that I have been hoarding for literal years. It’s time to use them! My first project, I hope, will be a dress from a 1950’s pattern that is either a tent-shape or, when belted, a classic 50’s full skirt shape. I think it will work well as maternity wear, and I have a gorgeous yellow and orange floral vintage sheet that would be an excellent dress.

I hope to also sew some vintage-inspired maternity wear; a stretchy pencil skirt from dark floral fabric I own; a wrap dress, perhaps, and other more form-fitting but still vintage-inspired garments that can help carry my wardrobe through the last 4-1/2 months of this pregnancy.

Flowing maxi dresses are a must, or on the flip side anything semi body-con so I feel actually pregnant and not just a bit wide. This pregnancy has been a bit odd. I haven’t had much time to let it settle in between moving, unpacking, and holidays. Now that all of that is over, I feel like I can finally start to focus on pregnancy. But it’s already nearly halfway over!

I haven’t really connected with the pregnancy yet – and I think it’s because we’ve been so busy. Perhaps once we find out if it’s a boy or a girl, and start choosing a name, I’ll feel a bit more connected. But for now, I’ll be figuring out a bunch of vintage-inspired maternity outfits, or true vintage maternity outfits, because what else is there to do when your body is going through such massive change than to figure out how to feel really cute at every stage?

Just kidding, pregnancy is more serious than that. But feeling cute is a good thing, too.
