Stars and Stripes
Happy Fourth of July! So far, today has been great for me. I have the day off, which is wonderful (except I’ll have to work tomorrow, which means I can’t stay up too late…), and I slept in till an uprecedented 9:30. You guys, when you’re pregnant, sleeping in is even better. It’s like heaven.
The weather isn’t looking too promising but I’m going to have faith in the forecast, which says it’ll be sunny and in the 70’s by one o’clock. I hope. The clouds this morning do allow me to wear this cardigan, but I’m sure I’ll be losing it later.
Do you all have any exciting plans for today? I’m off to a barbecue lunch with my husband at his workplace very soon, and then I have to go grocery shopping (which might be torture since it’s the 4th and I’m sure everyone will be out), clean the house, and then go to my parents’ for steak and corn on the cob… and then hopefully I’ll be able to stay awake long enough to see a few fireworks.
I bought this dress from Modcloth a really long time ago (okay, like… a little over six months ago… which I guess is a long time) to wear to my rehearsal dinner, and I don’t know why I’ve never worn it for the blog. I LOVE the lace, and it’s got this great low back to it. The only thing I didn’t like was how short the underskirt was. My mom added about five inches to the lining, because seriously: if I sat down in the orginal underskirt, there was nothing between me and the lace. I saw those same complaints in other reviews, but it was too pretty to pass up, and really it’s an easy fix.
Just let me know if you guys ever get tired of seeing bump pictures. And I’ll roundly ignore you and go right on posting them. Ha! I love the baby bump. I’m happy that I’m showing soon, and that it’s (hopefully) obvious it’s a baby bump.
I really need to find some replacement shoes, because these — much like my often-worn brown retro shoes– are starting to fall apart. Does anyone know of an affordable lookalike? Or a site with retro-inspired shoes that don’t cost an arm and a leg?

Love your flower crown and those star earrings! I’ve been on the lookout for some vintage-inspired heels too, but I don’t think my recs are going to do you much good because they’re all Vietnamese stores 😛
Eccentric Owl
Haha, yeah, probably not! Online stores might be more luck. I keep trolling Modcloth hoping they’ll have some good shoes on sale, because occasionally they come out with awesome retro looking heels!

Oh that flower crown! It’s so cool! That’s on my list of things to try this summer/fall and you pull it off really well. 🙂 Congrats on the little baby!!

Thank you! I always get too intimidated to wear flower crowns in public, but I think my goal this summer will be to wear more crowns (or even just flowers) in my hair. They’re so fun!
Thanks!

aw this is SUCH a cute outfit- i love the floral headband! and i hate when the underskirt of a dress is too short. how hard is it to make it the normal length? good thing your mom is crafty 😉 and yuuum, it sounds like you had a day filled with yummy bbqs and food. marc and i were lazy and just went out to eat- i’m getting so uninspired by the stove lately. i miss my momma’s cooking 🙁 and keep posting those baby bumps- they’re adorable 🙂

hehe, thanks Marlen! It’s not too hard to add some length; all you have to do, really, is measure a piece of cloth around as wide as the skirt is, and then however long you need it, and sew it on. It took mom maybe ten minutes.
Ahaha, well… it actually ended kind of badly with a trip to the ER (nothing SUPER serious, the husband just got a piece of steak stuck in his esophagus for 7 hours… painful, but not life threatening…) but I made friends with the receptionist while I waited for them to get the steak out of his throat, so that was fun. We’re going to the drive-in movies to make up for it tonight.
Me, too! It’s really hard to cook when it’s hot out. I think we’re going to survive on a lot of salad and mac and cheese this summer…
I totally will! I’m having too much fun with the bump not to photograph it.
