All Ways are the Queen’s Ways
OH MY GOODNESS YOU GUYS. FAVORITE. COSTUME. EVER.
Sorry for the all-caps, but seriously. I didn’t expect this to come out as good as it did; I was really struggling with what to wear from my collection of red things — this, or this, or this, or this — and I finally decided the lace dress worked the best with these tights. But I still wasn’t that enthralled with it; I’m kind of over the shorter length of dresses on me with heels… and I was also missing some pattern to tie in the black shoes and black belt. And I thought… you know, this skirt has always reminded me of cards, so why not try it over the dress?
And it just… was so perfect.
If we didn’t have to walk all over the place for trick-or-treating, I would so wear this tomorrow. Also, it’s not that warm of an outfit, so… that’s also against it for trick-or-treating. Otherwise, though… man, I wish I could make it to those costume parties! The makeup and hair are the real key to this costume for sure; without them, it would be a normal outfit to wear wherever. And I’m so, so glad the hair worked out the way I hoped it would! It was super easy to get up; if you’ve got long hair, all you have to do is part down the middle, and do two victory rolls on the top of your head. Short hair would be harder, since all the little wispy pieces won’t want to roll. And makeup-wise, I wanted it to all look a little bit doll-like. Perfect skin, very round blush on the apples of my cheeks, very un-blended shadow. And lots of bottom lashes. Again, all really easy to do! I nearly didn’t draw the line into my brows, but at the last minute I thought… it might work! I’m glad I did; there was something missing in the makeup before the brows were on. If I had a stick of glue and a good powder, I might have blanked out my own brows first, but eh. I kind of like this look; it’s very… foppish. If a woman can be a fop. Now I just really want to go somewhere! To the store; I wouldn’t even get weird looks right now because it’s almost Halloween and people would just assume I’m going to a party. Actually, my husband wants to go to the store to pick up a few bits and bobs for his costume tomorrow (his work is having a costume contest) so I’ll probably just wear this all day and to the store with him. We’ll see what people think! I very nearly didn’t get to take pictures of this outfit, either; it’s been raining hard ALL morning, and I was resigning myself to possibly having to do indoor photographs, which I hate… but right as I was finishing up my makeup, the rain stopped. And then Asa woke up hungry. So I gave him a bottle, ran outside, and… here we are! Right as I came back inside, it started to rain again. I’ve got to make this post a quick one; Asa is getting tired of playing on the floor, and he’s also finding all these little hairs to eat. I just vacuumed yesterday; I don’t know how he always manages to find hair on the floor! Ugh. Babies and their propensity to shove every single thing into their mouths. The hair thing grosses me out big time!

I hope you are all having a fantastic week! I’ve had so much fun this week trying to create costumes from my closet. Do y’all have any other suggestions? I might continue the character-inspired outfits into the next week if I can!
Happy Thursday!

Beautiful! It turned out really well indeed!
I’ve always wanted to go as the Mad Hatter, and probably have everything except for the actual hat. But alas, we don’t do Halloween where I live! Although I will be making a fun day out of tomorrow…

Love your costume!! You’re the perfect Red Queen! Be sure to tell us what kind of reactions you get from people in the store—I’d love to know! 🙂 Too bad you can’t go to a costume party…your outfit is perfect!

I love this one! You are too beautiful for the Queen of Hearts, but other than than, you look just like her : ) All ways are the Queen’s ways! You could have fun with that when Nehemiah gets home!

Ooh, I think this is my favorite look that you’ve created so far. That skirt is fabulous, and the make-up is on point!

Such a cute costume! I love the heart shaped lipstick and the big victory roll hairstyle. You could definitely go to the store in this! It’s the only time of year you can basically wear anything and people won’t assume you’re nuts for wearing it. Hoorah!

Oh my, I LOVE this! Conceptual, rather than literal, costumes are always my favorite, and this is perfect. I admit I would wear this entire dang thing – hair, makeup, and all – out in public on the daily.

Your costume ideas have been such a treat to follow! This one is so adorable. I really love your victory rolls. I’ve never personally done them but I love the way they look on you.
